The Library has no edge. Walk east past the last hexagon of a floor and you are back at the first; climb past the last floor and you are on the first again. The seam is where these numbers roll over, like an odometer. Nothing marks it, and positions are counted east and up from it, as longitude is counted from Greenwich. The map shows the whole Library, east to the right and up to the top: its border is the seam, and each side joins the side opposite. The dot is this hexagon.

The catalogue runs the shelving backwards: it composes the book that begins with your text and finds the shelf it stands on. Every possible book is somewhere in the Library, exactly once.
These are the books of this Library’s own collection. Choose one, and the catalogue sets it in pages as a book of the Library holds it, then finds the one book on the shelves that holds exactly those pages.
To find a book that is not in the collection, show the catalogue its plain-text file (.txt). Your browser may ask whether to “upload” it: it is only read by this page, and nothing leaves your computer.
Negative numbers go west, or down.
